This will be the final post of the Adult Swim News Blog.

When I started the blog exactly five years ago today there was a severe shortage of consolidated information about Adult Swim, especially DVD releases and show premieres, etc. These days things have changed, the focus of the blog was always "Adult Swim stuff and other stuff you might also like" but now my interest in the other stuff has grown and while my enthusiasm for all things 'Swim remains, I feel like it's time to talk about some other stuff.
This isn't to say there will be no 'Swim discussion on the new blog but you can always check it out for yourself at pandasized.tv ;)

Metalocalypse Season 4 on BluRay/DVD October 30

Archer/Bob's Burgers cross-over episode IS coming!

How do you like them apples? The next season of Archer will have an episode in which Duchess has an identity crisis and thinks he's a common burger chef. That is until, in star Jon Benjamin's words, "Russian thugs come in, and Bob dispatches of them expertly. And he's like What just happened? How did I do that?"

This is super exciting, but posed even more questions, maybe Archer can believe he is the son of a psychiatrist to the stars, or a high-school soccer coach, or the father of a certain Daughter of the Devil...

Jackson Publick announces Venture Bros season 5 hour long premiere

On the Mantis-Eye Experiment website Jackson Publick has revealed that the Venture Bros season 5 premiere will be an hour long affair and that the rumored Halloween episode will be part of the 10 episode season not a stand alone special.

They have a pretty cool interview there beyond these simple nuggets, worth a look.

 

Futurama Season 7... isn't announced, but here's the BluRay cover

No date on this one, but the cover design is online. Normally I wouldn't post stuff like this without more details (extras, release date, etc) but I really like the look of it, so enjoy.

Check it Out! with Dr Steve Brule coming to DVD.... soon?

The word is out that the on-again/off-again DVD release of Check it Out! with Steve Brule is back on again, this time season 1 and 2 combined. TVshowsonDVD has the cover, no one seems to know the release date.

Despite what wikipedia says, I'd say the DVD release was probably due to date scheduling and marketing windows... expect to see the phrase "Oscar-nominee" a lot, especially in mainstream news circles (like this will get mainstream attention!?!).

There's a great, detailed write up on Space Ghost: Coast to Coast in the new iPad magazine Backstory, the brainchild of Jeff Goldsmith of the Q&A movie podcast. Following the recent Space Ghost tribute at LA's Cinefamily, the article looks back at the creation of the show, the fresh attitude the executives had and the bizarre experiences of the many celebrity guests over the show's ten year run.

It's good to see that the old guy is still in the minds of critics and it's worth a read. The magazine has just launched and the first issue is free for a limited time - so get on board.

Sealab 2020 (I know, right?) splashes out on DVD

The original Sealab 2020 series is on sale now, and to paraphrase Seth Meyers, it's sure to be a hit with Sealab 2021 die-hards and mum's who always buy the wrong thing.

It's pretty amazing that this would be released at all. I guess you could argue that it's a triple-threat: nostalgia, educational and stoner curiosity. I have checked out a few episodes of '2020, and it's definitely for the purest of fanboys, but if making your own Sealab fan videos is your passion I guess this could be the helping hand you need, and a perfect companion to the Sealab 2020 board game.

James Franco releases SNL documentary!

This story involves a number of my favourite things.

1. James Franco - it's super fun to watch the clips of him on daytime soap operas and wonder, they would not be out of place in a Tommy Wisseau film. Despite this he's garnered a reputation as a thinking man's actor, while his acting work might be hit and miss he has more degrees than you have... degrees.

2. SNL - the show has been on fire for the last ten years or so, and while I've watched a bunch of episodes and read books/news articles nothing could be more insightful than...

3. James Franco + SNL = SNL documentary by James Franco.

Apparently it shows the process of an average week in the 30 Rock offices, expect to see the Tuesday all-nighter, the table read, dress, etc. You can't go wrong, more details here.

 

Adult Swim block comes to Comedy Channel in Australia

People have tried to crack the Adult Swim niche on Australian TV before, Harvey Birdman airing on SBS was probably the best fit. The attempt to fit in an AS block on Foxtel's Cartoon Network ws never going to work because, unlike in the States, cable doesn't have enough penetration for counter-programming to be successful.

But now... But now it finds a home on the Comedy Channel, exactly where it belongs. Follow the link for more info...

Splitsider has a cool interview with Eagleheart star Chris Elliot and the writers/directors (including Jason Woliner of Human Giant infamy) about the series as a whole, the conception and the premier of Season 2! Despite their pleas that it's not a Walker Texas Ranger parody (which it isn't in the strictest sense), there's no denying they favor satirizing the genre.

So are you an Eagleheart fan? I find it a bit hard to penetrate, I probably prefer NTSF, but it's still worth a look if you haven't give it a chance.

Looks pretty amazing, how many times have you seen poorly designed images of Reddit saying "Holy cow, these voices are all by the same guy!" Imagine if someone just made a documentary about that, and it was about the launch at arty Film Festivals, then maybe a limited theatre run in a city you don't live in, then on DVD where you see it on a shelf a months after it's release."Oh yeah, that movie," you say making a note in your phone before going home a adding it to your Netflix watch list.

IFC pulls the trigger on Comedy Bang! Bang! preview clip

You are in for a treat, comedy lovers. Podcast Comedy Bang! Bang! has evolved in to a new television show for IFC (who are kicking some serious freaken goals at the moment) who have in turn released a little sneak peak. Throw your eyeballs at this...

Host and #humblebrag hater Scott Aukerman brings the world of his podcast to life with sprinklings of his other notable projects, namely Mr Show and Between Two Ferns. With band leader/sole member Reggie Watts on hand and Aukerman's gang of podcast regulars - CBB is bound to be the underground hit that you'll be Tumblring about over the next few months.

Parks and Recreation wraps Season 4 with alternative endings

Lesley's election campaign has dominated Season 4 of Parks and Recreation, and as the season winds up viewers will be tuning in to see whether she is successful in her bid for Mayor. According to Diane Haithman audiences will have to wait until the climax to know for sure which outcome the producers have decided on with two alternate endings being shot simultaneously, one where she is successful and another where she is not - that's right, just like Rocky Balboa (2006).

No confirmation on whether the incumbent Mayor will end up being portrayed by Bill Murray, as has been rumored/hoped/please can it please happen I'll be good all year I promise.

 

Danny McBride and Matt Maiellaro combine for new FX series

News breaking today is hot enough to melt whatever boner you could possibly muster. Danny Fucking McBride (Eastbound and Down) and Matt Maiellaro (ATHF) will be combining for a new comedy series for FX, having struck gold with their showcase animated series Archer. The meat in this awesome manwich is Grant Dekernion, writer and friend of McBride, and now someone I am glad exists on this earth.

While McBride is the big name in this deal, just as exciting is the full involvement of his production company Rough House. Why is that a big deal? Well, I'll tell you - geez, settle down. Co-founders of Rough House would be the hilarious David Gordon Green (also Eastbound and Down) and Jody Hill (Observe and Report, Eastbound and Down). Effin great dude. Effin. Great.
